Deepfake videos created by AI that simulate video calls from your friends and colleagues.

Experts are concerned that we are at the brink of AI-generated deepfakes crafted to pilfer our sensitive information.

If you receive a high volume of work emails, chances are you've encountered the occasional phishing attempt posing as a colleague or supervisor, aiming to pilfer your credentials. Now, picture a Zoom call where a scammer, appearing and sounding exactly like your boss, tries to deceive you.

As reported in a recent Bloomberg article, cybersecurity experts express concerns that hackers may be gearing up for such deceptive tactics. In a noteworthy development earlier this month, Mandiant, a cybersecurity firm owned by Google, uncovered the inaugural case of AI-driven deepfake video technology explicitly crafted and marketed for phishing schemes.

Advertisements for the software highlighted its capability to replicate human likeness and create an appearance of heightened personalization while attempting to extract sensitive information. However, researchers couldn't confirm the legitimacy of the software or whether it had been employed in any attacks, prompting caution before sounding an alarm. Criminals are not known for transparency, and the claims of this deepfake video software may not be entirely reliable.

Maintaining composure is warranted for another reason as well. While AI video generation technology advances, so do AI video detection tools. Just as tools emerged to identify essays generated by ChatGPT, there's a likelihood that similar tools could emerge for AI-generated videos, assisting in distinguishing between what is authentic and what is not.

Study reveals that ChatGPT can effectively mimic medical professionals.

As per a research study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, ChatGPT exhibited a 72% accuracy rate in clinical decision-making within healthcare contexts. The AI chatbot effectively diagnosed patients and provided accurate recommendations for care. While it excelled in delivering precise final diagnoses (with a 77% accuracy rate), it faced challenges in differential diagnosis and demonstrated reduced effectiveness in assigning medications. The findings underscore the potential of AI in healthcare, yet emphasize the irreplaceable nature of human expertise.
