Researchers at Anthropic have made significant progress in understanding how neural networks process and interpret complex data patterns. They approached this by mapping the "brain" of a model, examining clusters of neurons, often referred to as features. By developing a method to identify which features are activated in response to specific queries—similar to observing brain activity in an MRI—they gained deeper insights into the model’s workings.

Manipulating AI Features to Understand Behavior
The team also explored the effects of enhancing certain features. For example, when they intensified the feature associated with the Golden Gate Bridge, the model mistakenly identified it as the bridge itself. However, the primary aim was to explore the potential to suppress unwanted neural activities.

The Path to Safer AI Models
This approach is crucial because it can prevent models like Claude from producing biased, inaccurate, or harmful content. By effectively "silencing" parts of the network responsible for such outputs, Anthropic’s research represents a significant step towards creating safer and more reliable AI systems.

How to create interactive charts with GPT-4o

• Go to ChatGPT and make sure you select GPT-4o as your model.

• Upload your data file to ChatGPT (do not enter any sensitive information into ChatGPT)

• Now click on the expand button to explore your data and ask ChatGPT to visualize your data by requesting the creation of a chart.

For instance, I uploaded a spreadsheet with data on the Japanese automobile industry.

Prompt: “Create a pie chart to display the total units sold by each brand in 2021”

You can interact with the chart and even edit it in ChatGPT by clicking on the edit button in the top right corner.

OpenAI vs. Scarlett Johansson

OpenAI has confirmed through internal documents that they did not utilize Scarlett Johansson's voice to train Sky, their new AI avatar. Despite some internet users noting a striking similarity between Sky and Johansson's character from the 2013 film Her, the voice actress behind Sky has supported this assertion, stating, "It’s just my natural voice, and I’ve never been compared to her by the people who do know me closely.”

However, OpenAI's situation remains complicated. Johansson disclosed that the company had made several attempts to hire her as the voice of its new interface, which she declined. Legal experts suggest that Johansson could still pursue a lawsuit under “right to publicity” laws, which protect against the unauthorized commercial use of an individual’s likeness. This could lead to a legal examination to determine if the voices are indeed too similar.
